This day in history: May 3

1923 - Lieutenants John Macready and Oakley Kelly land their Fokker T-2 aircraft in San Diego, California. This is the first non-stop transcontinental flight. It took nearly 27 hrs.

The average flying time from New York to Los Angeles is just over 6 hours today. We've driven straight through from Minneapolis to Houston, which took about 24 hours; however, we made quite a few stops on the way. I can't imagine being cooped up like this for 27 hours without being able to stop and stretch.
