Angry truckers to encircle D.C. with 'blockade'
Protesting administration plan to allow Mexican long-haulers on U.S. roads
American truckers plan to circle the White House and state capitals in a "rolling blockade" to protest a federal government plan to allow Mexican long-haul rigs to operate throughout the U.S
It may just be my perception; but, it seems everytime I read something about America's truckers, they always modify it with 'angry.' They're never just truckers, nor even mildly frustrated truckers.
Personally, I don't get the warm-fuzzies knowing that there are thousands of 'angry' truckers tearing around America's highways. I know they romantically call themselves the "knights of the road"; but, my opinion of truckers was actually tainted during an event that occurred years ago.
I was traveling back from Chicago over Thanksgiving weekend, following my brother and his family, and the weather was pretty nasty, snow and sleet. About 6 miles from the MN border, all traffic came to a stop. I jumped into my bro's car to wait it out. He had a CB radio (if you're under the age of 35, you probably have no idea what that is) and we listened to it for quite a while. The main thing we heard was truckers whining and moaning about the stinking 4-wheelers on the road. We sat there for about 4 hours. It turns out, the hold up was due to two stinking 18-wheelers who had jack-knifed on the Hudson Bridge, right on the WI and MN border. I had a bad taste in my mouth about truckers for a long time. The guys we listened to weren't necessarily mad, they were just arrogant and annoying.
