They're sucking me back in!

When I was a lad, then a teen, then a young man in my 20’s; I loved baseball. I played from age 5-18, little league to Babe Ruth. My buddies and I won at every level, and made it to 5 different state tournament competitions. During my college days, I played town ball during the summer, and continued that until I was about 25. If you had told me back then that I would one day fall away and stop following baseball, I would have said you were crazy; but it happened.

I got completely fed up with the strikes, the .190 hitters and 2-15 pitchers winning salary arbitrations for multi-million dollar contracts, the guys sitting out and demanding more money and basically saying---screw you---to their teammates, and then turn around and pretending solidarity with the union. I just got fed up with it all.

All of that crap still goes on; but when you get a team together like this year’s Twins, I can’t help but get excited about baseball again. I’ll follow them and cheer throughout the playoffs, and wish them nothing but the best; but I won’t guarantee that it will carry over into next season.

I basically hold the same attitude for all professional sports; it’s just that I feel bad about forsaking baseball as a love in my life. Maybe I’ll give MLB a second chance; particularly a group of guys like these Twins.

Yup, this group is worth cheering for.
