NAIROBI, Kenya — An elephant has trampled and killed a British tourist on his honeymoon in Kenya, officials said Monday.
"He was trampled by an elephant while on a nature trail with his wife," said Connie Maina, spokeswoman for the Kenya Wildlife Service. "This is a terrible accident."
"We think the elephant must have been at very close proximity to the couple and was surprised," she said. "They don't normally do this kind of thing."
Well I bloody well hope this isn't a normal, every day occurrence; otherwise, why would you let people go traipsing around an area where elephants are likely to run amok and stomp on people if they get surprised?
How does this spokesperson know that the elephant wasn't lying in ambush, and purposely trampled this poor guy. Maybe it was a vendetta against human kind in general. I think they need to wait until CSI:Kenya investigates and checks out the forensic evidence.
Add another to the body count of people killed by the "misunderstood and no threat to humans" members of the animal kingdom. Since I've been blogging, July 06, I've talked about people killed by bears, snakes, manta rays, and now elephants, what's next---penguin stampede kills antarctic explorer?
