Count your blessings

As I approach the half-century mark of my life, one of the blessings I'm most grateful for has been my health. Since about the age of 45, I have been having some eye problems, and it's getting to be a real pain doing my crossword puzzles; but I can live with that. There are so many people who have to battle with health issues on a daily basis that I have absolutely nothing to complain about, yet.

The reason I bring it up is because I just went through a bout of some sort of intestinal virus, or food poisoning, and I got to thinking about how awful it must be for someone who has to endure those symptons on an on-going basis. There are untold numbers of diseases and physical maladies that people put up with, but I can not imagine anything worse than having something that affects your digestive tract.

Segue here: in order to relate a cute story about my son, I'm going to relate a bit of "to much information." I generally view having a b.m. as a nice respite from everyday life, and I usually do a little crossword puzzle work as I'm performing this natural bodily function. Well, one day when our son was still in the potty-training mode, we found him sitting on the potty chair with a crossword puzzle book in hand, looking very content I might add. Like father, like son.

Anyway, it's hard to concentrate on enjoying the crosswords when you're almost doubled up in pain and praying that God take this away or just kill me now.
