This Day: May 17 IDAHO

International Day Against Homophobia

Yes, you heard that right.

The international day against homophobia aims to coordinate international events to call respect for lesbians and gays world-wide. Unlike the LGBT Pride Day, which is meant to emphasise proudness of one's sexuality and refusal to be ashamed of it, IDAHO is held to highlight: "... that in reality it is homophobia that is shameful and must be deconstructed in its social logic and fought against openly."

May 17 was chosen as the day of the event because homosexuality was removed from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organization (WHO) on May 17, 1990.

I'm always amazed at how proud they can be of their sexuality, but also how adamant they can be that they have no control in the matter and it's just the way they were born. The main problem with this whole concept of homophobia is that they demonize absolutely anyone who simply has an opinion that homosexuality is not a normal, or natural, state of being. I don't hate them, or have an abnormal fear of them; I simply don't think that it's normal no matter how you look at it: religiously, genetically, hormonally, evolutionally (ok, not sure if that's a word), whatever the case may be.

I don't have anything against individual gays, and I don't think them being gay lessens any of the character traits that we all admire---compassion, humor, intelligence, determination, patriotism, yada-yada-yada. I do have a major problem with the homosexual 'community.' I think as a group they're a bunch of spoiled, arrogant, selfish, whiners who think they should all be treated like some kind of enchanted beings. There are countless other 'communities' of people who are far worse off than homosexuals in general. It's not just homosexual teenagers who get bullied at schools; it's not just homosexuals who get life-threatening illnesses, it's not just homosexuals who get assaulted or murdered. Welcome to planet earth homos. We all face hatred and possibly being harmed physically, emotionally or spiritually on a daily basis.

I have no problem that the WHO took homosexuality off the list of classified diseases. I do think though that they should have added liberalism to the list. I find lunatic liberals far more offensive than homosexuals.

I do have a problem that they took it off the list! Sad day for those who feel there is indeed something wrong with them and want to be rid of it. In Canada the churches are forbidden to speak against homosexuality. When i speak against homosexuality in my blog, amazing how someone finds me and blasts me for it. It is one of Satan's pet causes. Do we have the courage to stand up and say that it is abnormal, a disease, sinful, and wrong? Blogs may remain one of the few places where we can say what we think.

It's because the world has culturally accepted homosexuality almost like a fad.

Couple that with the overwhelming message of "tolerate everyone!" (except for Christians, it seems) and you get an awful situation for Christians to speak out and be involved in.

You have no idea how many times I have heard the "but they just love each other, is that so bad?" comment. It's a difficult fight.

I do agree with Gabrielle Eden's post on her blog, when she said that she would fight homophobia. We shouldn't be afraid of gays, but rather ought to reach out to them in an effort to help them. They get enough true (not intolerant) hate from other sources, so why add Christians to the list?
