Forgotten in the annals of history---AKJ assassination attempt on Jimmy Carter

This Day in History: April 20

1979 - Jimmy Carter's rabbit incident.

Dubbed the Killer Rabbit by the media, Jimmy Carter's rabbit was a Swamp Rabbit that caught press imagination after trying furiously to board then-President of the United States Jimmy Carter's fishing boat on April 20, 1979.

Carter had gone on a solo fishing expedition in his hometown of Plains, Georgia when the rabbit approached his boat, "hissing menacingly, its teeth flashing and nostrils flared and making straight for the president"[1], trying desperately to enter the boat, causing Carter to flail at the swimming creature with the oars from his boat.

What a great idea for a novel. What if the rabbit had succeeded, and managed to take Carter out on this day? How would American history have changed? Was Iran behind this assassination plot? If it had succeeded, would President Mondale have bent over as well and let the Iranian hostage situation even happen, let alone drag on as long as it did?

I'm gonna get started on a rough draft. I think this is a story that needs telling.
