Prince's acclaimed performance included a guitar solo during the "Purple Rain" segment of his medley in which his shadow was projected onto a large, flowing beige sheet. As the 48-year-old rock star let rip, the silhouette cast by his figure and his guitar (shaped like the singer's symbol) had phallic connotations for some.
I actually had made a comment about this to Mocha-momma as we saw it during the performance. No one else in the room said anything, so we just laughed about it between ourselves. I don't know whether it was planned to appear that way; but I imagine someone in on the plans must have realized what kind of visual it would produce.
