What Would Barney Fife Do?

Stolen Library Book Leads to Shooting?
ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - Police say a security guard at the Anderson County Library fired his gun at a car after the driver triggered a security alarm.

Evidently a little over-zealous regarding his job description.

So they're allowing guards at a public library to carry weapons; must be one tough library. (maybe they have quite the literate gang-banger population in Anderson S.C.)

My recommendation---allow the guards to carry a handgun; but, give them one bullet and make them carry it in the breast pocket of their uniform, ala Barney Fife.

It doesn't say anything in the story, but I wonder if this genius thought about getting a license plate as the car was driving past him.

Maam, please put the books down and step away from them. The other thing is if this woman was stealing books, she's just too stupid cuz it's a freaking library!

The Nightwriter wrote about a related item last night. Apparently some libraries are removing the classics from their shelves because no one is checking them out. Maybe it's because they're afraid that they'll be fired upon!

I'd love to see the police seargent step up to the security guard, put his hand out and have him hand the gun over. That's probably the funniest part of that show.
