McDonald's Tops Starbucks in Coffee Taste Test (Newsmax)
When Consumer Reports magazine compared coffee from mega-chain Starbucks with java from three fast-food restaurants, the surprising winner was – McDonald’s.
The magazine had trained tasters sample a medium cup of black coffee from McDonald’s, Burger King, Dunkin’ Donuts and Starbucks, and found the best cup of joe under the golden arches.
McDonald’s coffee "beat the rest,” according to Consumer Reports. It was "decent and moderately strong. Although it lacked the subtle top notes needed to make it rise and shine, it had no flaws.”
As for Starbucks, its coffee "was strong, but burnt and bitter enough to make your eyes water instead of open.”
I'm definitely no connoisseur of coffee, not like Mocha-momma. This doesn't mean anything, because Caribou wasn't thrown in the mix. We'll have to have Uncle Ben at Hammerswing75 throw in his two cents on this subject, then we can decide on the validity of this test.

the answer to starbucks: folger's columbian. i swear by it. and even consumer report backs me up.
mmm. BK Joe...
Gino: you were probably just brainwashed watching Mrs. Olsen on the old Folger's commercials. A cup of coffee by itself doesn't do anything for me. A cup of coffee along with a good solid farmer's omelet; that's what I'm talking 'bout.

I don't drink McDonald's coffee because it's dangerous. Without fail I drop it all over my nether regions and it burns something fierce.
Regarding Cariboo, and Starbucks for that matter, I don't know how they conducted the test. We have upwards of 12 varieties to choose from and they vary quite a bit. Obsidian and Fireside beat the Golden Arches without question.
I had the chance to try some Dunkin Donuts coffee over the weekend and it was really pretty good, but that might just be the pastry talking.
Darn, I knew I spelled Cariboo wrong, I just wasn't quite positive that it was spelled with the oo, not ou at the end.
Comparing what you get at Starbucks with what you get at "Chez Mac" is a bit like comparing apples and oranges, or a minivan with a Rolls-Royce. Those who like one have no use for the other, more or less.
My personal bias is in favor of the boutiques, though, especially dark roasts. And I like it in a glass, not a paper cup. So Caribou and $tarbuck$ are decidedly downscale from the Viennese model I'd favor. :^)
It's Caribou-hoo! True, Folgers and McGarvey are your basic, good Columbian coffees that you find in lots of restaurants or you can make at home and maybe you can find at McDonald's. Caribou and Starbucks don't impress me either.
KD, I just spell in with an -oo to avoid searches from corporate.
