Motivation is everything: fear vs vision

Regarding a previous post: Athiests Say the Darndest Things

This was about Stephen Hawking and his call to colonize other planets because earth will more than likely be destroyed soon by nuclear war or a rogue asteroid.

A comment was left by a Mr. Mark Klugman, who it appears has held some very interesting and challenging positions in his life, including working with former Presidents Reagan and Bush. He makes some interesting points. See a web site that he has The Klugblog

He outlines the vision that President Reagan had regarding space colonization; but there is a very important difference between this and what Stephen Hawking was suggesting. I think the difference here is a fundamental difference between liberals and conservatives on any number of issues.

Liberals are motivated by fear. Nearly everything that liberals say and do is either generated by or meant to generate fear in individuals or groups. Conservatives are motivated by vision and problem solving. It's a pretty broad generalization; but anyone who has ever followed a democratic election campaign should be able to testify to this statement.

Anyway, I'm not sure how Mr Klugman stumbled on to my humble blog; but, check his out if space colonization is an interest of yours.
