I actually talked to DeWine for two minutes or so, and though I was lukewarm before hand, his personality was impecable. He asked about my plans for college, I said I was going to JCU for SS Education, he said that was his major in college, I said good luck with the campaign, he didn't.
Was he gentle? Yes, his personality is a lot like his politics, but look at his foil Ken Blackwell and you'll see that neither candidate could get the vote in Ohio. I guess Ohioans are wusses so they vote for wusses.
