Sometimes you just can’t fix stupid

Chuck Shepherd's News of the Weird----Least competent criminals

(1) Bryan Sanderson was arrested minutes after allegedly committing his second bank robbery of the day in York County, Va., in September. Sanderson's main misjudgment, according to police, was making his getaway both times in his company home-inspection van with "Sanderson Services" on the side.

(2) More Anthrax Stupidity: New Yorkers Donald Ray Bilby, 30, in July, and Abdullah Date, 18, in August, were, respectively, convicted and arrested for sending anthrax threats to authorities in envelopes that each contained their correct return addresses. (Date allegedly also included a taunting note reading, "Catch me if you can.")

Sometimes it’s just beyond comprehension how stupid people can be. I think my all time favorite ‘stupid criminal’ story is about a guy who robbed a convenience store; as he was leaving the cashier told him that he’d never get away with it and that he’d be caught. He yelled back at her something like “the cops would have to get up pretty early in the morning to catch Johnny Doe.” He gave her his real name, she told the cops, they looked him up, drove to his house, and arrested him. End of story.

How can humanists actually believe that mankind is evolving upward when stories like this, and any casual reading of events going on in the world, prove on a regular basis that mankind seems to be getting more stupid by the minute.

I use to have a job where I would see all the incoming mail that was not addressed to any specific department. I was amazed at some of the resumes and cover letters that came in; I never realized how many people with 5th grade writing skills were graduating from college. The fact that Jackass 2 was the #1 movie in the country is another prime example of how people are getting more stupid. Look at some of the top TV shows; my favorite being the "Win a Date With Flava Flave," or something idiotic like that. (click to see the post I did on this)

The world is regressing by the minute, and the patients are running the asylum. Those of us who are the Randall McMurphy's of the world (or the chief) just have to survive as best we can. (if you understand this reference, give yourself a big point; it's been a long time, but I remember loving the book far more than the movie)

Good call. Some people are born stupid, or unintelligent, but they're still the salt of the earth. Others are born with intelligence, they just choose not to partake of a God's grace and follow the lead of the world, which is permeated with the sinful nature, most of which leads to stupidity.
