Political Correctness ala Small-town USA

I mentioned we went to my daughter’s choir concert last night. We’ve enjoyed all these little musical performances that we’ve attended over the years for both my son and daughter. I do have one beef however; I’m getting a little tired of the cultural celebration and diversity brainwashing that permeates every performance.

Rockford belongs to some alliance of schools, per state regulations---the Northwest Suburban something or other. Well, about 5 years ago one of the schools went over the target student population in some socio-economic group, therefore all the schools in the alliance had to go to open enrollment and become a specialty magnet school so that this group could be catered to and given some better opportunity to expand their horizons. Rockford chose to be an Art’s Magnet School.

One advantage is that they did, do, receive extra money to cover the costs of diversifying all subject matter to take into consideration---the arts. On the other hand, we’re stuck listening to our kids sing cute little African or Chinese songs during concerts, instead of good old US of A songs that we grew up on as kids. It’s particularly irksome around Christmas, when they’ll sing some littly ditty from Korea, but they won’t sing Holy Night.

Last night they made a point to mention what a great little selection they had chosen to perform which was written to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s release from prison. I mentioned to Mocha-momma that that’s just what I want to hear, a little tribute to a nation that now on a daily basis allows the confiscation of property and the butchering of white families.

Oh well, the district hasn’t gone off the liberal deep-end as of yet. With Mocha-momma working at the school, she’s able to track all the teachings that are going on, and every teacher we’ve had for our two kids have been Christian and conservative.
