So far in a little over one month of blogging I've posted on a guy (the Grizzly Man) being killed and eaten by one of his beloved grizzly bears, a guy being killed by a stingray, and now a guy getting asphyxiated by his pet python. These are cases in a long line of people being killed by the oft 'misunderstood and no threat to humans if you treat them respectfully' members of the wild kingdom.
I love animals as much as the next guy, but I'm not going to tempt fate by thinking I can cavort with natural predators and not have any natural consequences of that cavorting take place. That is why the dear Lord created binoculars and cameras with zoom lenses.
Suffering the worst case scenario in a natural setting is one thing; bringing the possibility of being killed or injured by a natural predator right into your own home is outright ludicrous. I know people are going to say something like more people are killed every year by blenders in the kitchen than are killed by pythons; but so what. There are enough ways to die in this world without actually trying to increase the odds of an early demise by bringing a deadly creature to come live with you.
Like so many other things in life, to each their own. As for myself, the worst consequence I want to suffer in enjoying the wild kingdom is to have one of my guinea pigs poop and/or pee on me while I'm holding them and scratching under their chins. (which they love) I'm not going to chance being asphyxiated as I'm trying to lay a sloppy, wet one on the lips of my pet python.
