Last night we went to what is turning out to be one of our favorite annual community events---the homecoming week bonfire. First of all, it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. We gave the kids each $5 for treats and off they went. The only times we saw them was when they were flying by in their little wolf-packs of friends. Meanwhile, we adults stroll around and gab with friends, get a hot chocolate or cider, which tastes great on a beautiful, brisk fall evening; and then we watch all the high school kids interact, and think back to the days when we were doing the same things. Little changes over the course of 30 years, especially in small towns.
Quick segue: the fuel for the bonfire was a pile of pallets and assorted wooden furniture, probably about 15 feet high and maybe 20 feet wide at the base. The heat generated in this size fire was so intense that we had to back up, and we were about 30 yards away. I can’t imagine the intensity and heat of a large building fire; you get a greater respect for what fire fighters deal with in their jobs. Anyway, back to the reminiscing-----
Which brings me to this---a little quiz to all of you who graduated around the early or mid 70’s, maybe a little later as well. Do you remember your homecoming dances, or any dances in that era, and what was the one thing you looked forward to, mainly you guys out there, although the ladies may have anticipated it as well? After all the initial fast dances, the one that you had been waiting for finally came on, and that 2-3 foot gap of dancing space disappeared. It was time to do the slow dance sway---and what was the song that we waited for---(at least at Rosemount Sr. High).
As time goes on I realize Just what you mean to me
And now, now that you're near
Promise your love That I've waited to share
And dreams of our moments together
………………………….(what’s the next line)
And name the tune and the artist. Check comments
(p.s. for you bachelors and young guys out there, if you’re at a dance and wanting to make that first move---go up to the young lady who caught your eye and say: “I don’t know how to dance, but I’d like to hold you while you do.” Hey, it worked for my dad; my mom fell for it)

'Color my world with hope of loving you'
Color My World, by Chicago
I would have absolutely no idea what the current song is in this day and age. Probably something like "Rock my world big hot momma and join me in the mosh pit"
I knew that - I just didn't get here in time!
