The electorate vs a watery tart

King Arthur: I am your king.

Woman: Well I didn't vote for you.

King Arthur: You don't vote for kings.

Woman: Well how'd you become king then? [Angelic music plays... ]

King Arthur: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. THAT is why I am your king.

Dennis: [interrupting] Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dennis: Oh, but you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dennis: Oh but if I went 'round sayin' I was Emperor, just because some moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away.

I love this scene from Monty Python and The Holy Grail. There's more to it; but I just love Dennis' responses. Which brings me to my thought---how do some of these guys who run for president even make it into the running, and more amazing actually get the nod and have the opportunity to be president of the greatest country on earth.

How does a guy like Bill Clinton, governor of a state that ranked in the bottom five of nearly every measurable category there is that demonstrates the quality of a state, even be considered to run for president, let alone win the election. What about Howard Dean, the guy could be deemed totally certifiable by the crap that he spews out his pie-hole, but he was right up there; and now he runs the democratic party. The dems will say the same stuff about G.W., and an actor turned politician. What about a peanut farmer? I know that the saying is anybody can grow up to be president; but c'mon.

Why can't we find some leaders in America that can transcend the politics and take a leadership role with a just git-er-done attitude. I know that since it's inception, America has had presidents that now are viewed as larger than life, and many that have been forgotten and probably weren't considered to have done much of anything in their terms. I also realize that some of the giants were created more by circumstances than by their own character and abilities.

I'm not normally a conspiracist nut; but when it comes to politics at the utmost level, my money is on the master pulling the strings. Whatever the powers that be we don't hear about---whether it's the big money guys like the Getty's or Rockerfellers, or whoever; my opinion is that it behooves these guys to have controllable bozos in the position of president. I've read in multiple sources about organizations such as the Tri-lateral Commission, and others, that all of these past presidents and bigwigs have belonged to; it doesn't matter---dem or rep---they all participate in these types of organizations that are beyond the awareness of most Americans today.

Maybe I've read to many Ludlum and Clancy type authors in my life. I'm pretty skeptical when it comes to our ability as voters and taxpayers to affect what goes on at that level. There is one author though that I absolutely and positively believe in and accept what he has written as the absolute truth. I'm more concerned in living out my life based upon what he says, versus what the republicans or democrats are doing at any particular moment in my life---he is the author and finisher of my faith, Jesus Christ. I will actively participate in politics, and continue to express my disgust with liberalism in this country; but whether or not a democrat or republican is in office, my faith is in God, not in them.

I think the whole process is just messy and difficult and only people with certain characteristics can make it through in normal times. Connections are one of the big ones since they give a guy a leg up. But I don't think that there are people pulling the strings because it's too difficult to control the littlest of things in campaigning much less the whole darn thing.
