Why I don't put a lot of faith in doctors

Besides going in for physicals every once in a while, or setting broken bones, I've never been one for going to the doctor. I think general practitioners have their hearts in the right place, but my experience is they generally don't know squat about how to make you feel better.

Case in point. JR came home from Boy Scout camp and developed a rash on different parts of his body, very itchy. MM took him to the clinic last week, and they didn't know what it was. They said just put some hydrocortisone cream on it and hopefully it will go away. Well, it didn't. So MM went to work, she's a pit bull when it comes to cutting through the crap of these clinics, and got him an appointment to a dermatologist today. It was poison ivy. They gave him a prescription for oral prednisone. Hopefully he'll get some relief soon.

Why couldn't the GP have figured it out and got him on the med's last week. Gee, he was at a Boy Scout camp out in the forest, want to go out on a limb as to what the rash could have been.

I ditto that doubt about doctors. Sorry to my cousin, a doctor and a great guy!

Actually, the reason the doctor may have waited is because cortisone and its synthetic analogs shut down the adrenal gland. Prednisone is one of those analogs.

Back in the day when I was a whippersnapper like JR (did I tell you I want Matlock?), the doctors would give me a shot of "Kenalog" that would clear up asthma, allergies, and poison ivy in a day.

Great stuff, but see above for the downside. You don't use cortisone unless you need ot.
