The man who would be 'king'

Elvis Presley Fans Hold Graveside Vigil to Ahead of 30th Anniversary of His Death

I liked Elvis, not as much as the Beatles; but, I grew up with him in my formative years. My main memories from childhood were going to the drive-in movies and seeing him on the big screen. (James Bond movies were also big)

This post is more on the drive-in than on Elvis. The whole experience was one I enjoyed. We'd pop our own popcorn, get our own candy, buy some bottles of Pepsi, (which we always had on hand anyway, my mom loved Pepsi) and head out to the movie. The drive-in in Bloomington had a playground in front of the screen, so we'd go play until it got dark enough to start the movie. There was no going back to the main building once the movie started. If we had to go to the bathroom, well, that's what the empty Pepsi bottles were for.

I'm gonna have to see if there are still any drive-ins operating around MN. That's an experience I'd love to take our kids to. Getting back to Elvis, I always enjoyed his movies, but my favorite would have to be Frankie and Johnny. It co-starred Donna Douglas (Ellie May from the Beverly Hillbillies) and Harry Morgan (Col. Potter on Mash)

I don't remember Elvis movies. I always thought they were before our time.
