Eating beef ' is less green than driving'
Producing 2.2lb of beef generates as much greenhouse gas as driving a car non-stop for three hours, it was claimed yesterday.

Su Taylor, the press officer for the Vegetarian Society, told New Scientist: "Everybody is trying to come up with different ways to reduce carbon footprints, but one of the easiest things you can do is to stop eating meat."

I have neither the knowledge, desire, nor inclination to start looking into this numbers game that these people are playing; I'll leave to that to Bike Bubba, he seems to have the gift of cutting through the crap.

To Su, I say---how easy do you think it will be to extinguish at least 7,000 years of human appetite for meat?

I also say this: you'll get my cold, dead, bloody, slab of beef ribs when you pry it from my cold, dead, bloody hands. Good luck talking Mocha-momma into going vegan; she'd go out and strangle a cow herself to get a good prime rib.

The most eloquent writing I've read in a while!

Here's a hint about how to cut through things; there were about as many bison 150 years ago as there are cattle today in our country. Cows going "boop", as my kids put it, don't increase greenhouse gases as much as they maintain them.

So unless you want a cold wave, you NEED to eat that steak. Plus, healthy grasslands need to be grazed, or else the ecology changes.

Also, don't strangle the cow; adrenaline gives the meat a gamy flavor. Slitting the throat, or shooting it in the head or heart, kills it more quickly and makes the meat taste better.

We're going to be getting JR a gun soon; if we find it missing, along with MM, we'll know where to go look.

And don't use a .22 unless you're ready to run away from an angry bull.

You're welcome, KD. :^)

(seriously, the best thing you can do is take your son to the range, and five will get you ten that someone around 60 will train him to be able to shoot like that rifle was an extension of his hand)

We'll be taking him to a certification course offered through our community ed. After that, we're gonna have to find ways to get him practice. There's a shooting club in Delano, just up the road from us. Should be alot of old timers there that can take him under their wing.
