I bet he has a laptop on the passenger seat

Spring break, 1978. There were 6 of us driving back from North Padre Island, Corpus Christi TX, in a conversion van that one of my buddy's dad let us use. We were taking some back roads, and about 30 miles outside of Corpus, the van broke down in some little Texas town. Since it was Easter weekend, the shop in town was shutting down, and couldn't do the required work anyway. We had to have a tow truck come get us and tow us back into Corpus Christi to a shop that could fix it the next day.

The tow truck hooked the van up from the back end, and they let us all ride in the van for the trip. He got over onto a highway, and we were drinking beers and toasting cars that were driving by us. The amazing thing was, is that probably one out of every five cars had a driver who was also drinking beer and they'd toast us right back. They had some pretty lax driving & drinking laws in Texas back then.

We spent a rather surreal night in a neighborhood that probably was more Mexican than Mexico City. The funniest thing that happened was a visit at about 2:00 in the morning from a Moonie, who started talking to us through the vented window. Fortunately, none of us decided to convert that night.

I forgot about Moonies! Whatever happened to them?

I don't know about them as a whole; but we often wondered what happened to looney, gringo, moonie waltzing around Little Mexico in the middle of the night.
