Fantastic Fiction

As I write this, I'm watching a special on the History Channel about Star Wars, the legacy. (check that, MM just changed it to Food Network) No matter, I had been flipping around anyway. It basically was talking about the parallels to mythology; but, I'm not going into that. I just find it amazing that 30 years after it premiered, they're still talking about what a sensation it was. I remember going to see it in the theater when it first came out.

I was back home from college, and I went to see it with my roommate from the previous semester, Micci Wong (from Hong Kong, I posted about that experience previously) and his girlfriend Sue. I can't even remember who my date was at the time. I do remember that I'd never been to a movie that had so many people. We waited in a line that went outside the building and down the block. I don't remember that it changed or affected my life in any way whatsoever; but I did like it.

So, what are your memories and when did you first see it?

By the by, any Tolkien fans out there. I just finished "The Children of Hurin." It was a book that his son spent decades editing from his writings, long before The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings. It was a little different than reading about the hobbits, basically because it wasn't written in prose, but in some poetical style that J.R.R. had been mastering in the 1920's. It was a very interesting tale, and I enjoyed it very much. If you like fantasy, check it out.

If you haven't checked it out yet, I have a link on the side, and you're a book lover---go to a web site called Fantastic Fiction. It's a great resource for looking up information on thousands of authors, and gives wonderful details about all their works.

I watched star wars at my Godmothers house on the VCR when I was a wee lad.

Loved it ever since, probably read 80% of the books and played half the games that came out in the last 5 years.

I watched it in the theaters and I remember the music was cutting edge. I remember wanting to be like Princess Leah, and liking Skywalker better than Harrison Ford. But am amazed how my tastes matured and I got to like Ford so much later.
