Forward two years. Last night we went to the school and signed up Hannah-bear for an instrument. Her instrument of choice---alto sax. If I dropped a load on the flute, I dropped a double sized load on this one. $1,400, and that's on a refurbished one.
If you had told me prior to kids that I was going to invest $2100 in musical instruments I would have called you crazy (this doesn't even include the piano for MM, add another $2500). Golf clubs---sure, I could go with that; but not musical instruments. It's all Mocha-momma's fault. They got their musical ability from her. I was strictly into sports as extracurricular activities, and I'm sure my parents probably felt the same when they were paying for all my hockey gear and sticks.
Oh well, our kids are worth it, and since we're not going to take it with us when we die, I don't have any regrets about forking over the dough. The only thing I'm hoping is that she enjoys it and sticks with it.
