To Be (free); or Not To Be (free) the choice is up to them

Britney Spears' Rehab Center Choice of the Stars at $48,000 for 30-Day Stay (FoxNews)
Gourmet meals, masseuses, 500-thread-count sheets and private rooms with a fireplace and a view of one of the city's most exclusive beaches. It sounds like a high-end resort and it is — for the rich and famous looking to kick an addiction.

Treatment does not come cheap. A 30-day stay is $48,000.

What kind of perks can patients expect for $1,600 a night at the 16-person facility? A personal trainer, beautician, private counseling session and no chores. The sprawling grounds of the Mediterranean-style villa tucked in the Santa Monica Mountains include tennis and basketball courts, two pools and nearby horseback riding facilities.

"These people are wealthy, wealthy," Malibu Mayor
Ken Kearsley says of the clientele. "They don't call them gourmet cooks there, they call them `recovery nutritionists.'"

(Promises Residential Treatment Center: What will I find at Promises? A superior blend of luxury, holistic treatment options and challenging treatment for alcohol addiction. We use time-tested methods of support and innovative scientific techniques to offer immediate relief and lasting sobriety, augmented with uncommon luxuries such as individual massages and private or semi-private rooms. )

So, what exactly are the people thinking who go here: I'm not as serious about being set free from this addiction as I am in being told I'm not responsible and please pamper me through this and tell me how special I am.

I noticed going through some of the web site that they don't mention anywhere what their recovery rates are.
I bet the recovery rates are probably very, very low. I do imagine that the bank accounts of the the owners are very, very high.

Let's contrast this with MN Teen Challenge Rehab Center:

Our Philosophy: Minnesota Teen Challenge is founded on firm moral principles grounded in the Bible. Minnesota Teen Challenge believes and promotes these principles as put forth in the Scripture, as the basis and foundation for healing, restoration and life recovery.

Our Mission: To assist teens and adults in gaining freedom from chemical addiction by applying Biblical principles in establishing a chemical-free lifestyle, enhancing social skills, improving work habits, building supportive relationships, and growing in personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Studies done surveying graduates of Teen Challenge programs nationwide have shown success rates of 70-86%.

The people going through this program are segregated by sex, live in dormitories, have absolutely every waking moment of their days monitored and regimented, they live a spartan and disciplined existence, and in the end they (70-86% of them) walk out totally recovered, reunited with families, and their lives totally restored thanks to the powerful workings of the Holy Spirit and God in their lives.

My bet: Britney Spears is going to remain addicted, psychologically screwed up, and she'll probably die an early and tragic death. That is unless she goes somewhere like Teen Challenge.

I hope that she does well, but such opulence isn't helpful. One of the big things you have to learn in kicking addiction is that it isn't all about you.
