Self: don't ever go para-sailing at any beach resort in the world.
It's late on a Friday night, and I've just been watching some America's Funniest Home Videos. They just showed a string of videos which actually hurt just watching them. I normally wouldn't side with the insurance company; but, in these cases I would charge these bozos about triple the premium if what I saw was any indication of how they run the operation. One person actually flew into a lightpole.

My niece, who studies law (oh my lord I'm old) says that my photos that I'm dragging off sites and downloading into my blog could cause me to get fined or they could tell me to remove them. is this true? Would they even bother with my little blog?
You seem smart, so I thought I'd aask you.
It all still seems vague. There are obvious copyrighted pictures that I don't mess with. Most of the time the pictures I use are off the google images section; so I had just assumed they were fair game. I don't ever upload directly from someone else's web site; I usually 'save picture as' on my hard-drive and then upload from there. I know some of the sites don't let me save an image at all.
Hopefully Ben or Gino or Night Writer will see this and add their thoughts on what we should know.
This is what I found in the dashboard help section.
Regarding Images from the Web
[Back To Search Results]
Blogger's image upload feature allows users to upload and display images in their posts. This is great when you want to add a photograph you shot or an image you created. However, there are a few details to note when it comes to images that are legally protected or hosted at someone else's expense.
Adding Images "from The Web"
If you choose to "Add an Image from the Web" using the image upload feature in Blogger, you shouldn't use an image location that is hosted at someone else's expense without their permission. Sometimes this is referred to as "stealing bandwidth" because every time your blog loads, the image is loaded from their server, and this person likely incurs an expense.
Copyrighted Materials
Before you put an image in your blog, realize that some images are protected as intellectual property through copyright. This means that the creator has sole legal rights to their works and may not want you copying and displaying them. If you are unsure whether or not an image is copyrighted, it's best not to risk it. However, there are places which make it easier for you to find images you're allowed to use:
Hmmm, don't really know. I hope I'm not doing anything wrong, but I'm not particularly concerned either.
On a related note, I used to download songs from the internet. As I progressed through treatment I decided that that was no longer okay.
I have heard that if you change an image enough, then it's not illegal but what enough means depends on the judge or jury. Unless you're profiting from the image, I would not worry about it but as w/ college papers, I'd give credit to where you got it if it's an original.
That's what I think Mercy. We're so far under the radar screen of the major blogging world that I don't think it's a big deal.
I always try and give credit where credit is due and identify sources or people I get stuff from. Like the picture that I used from Michelle Malkin's site. I referenced her site and made the link.
I should find out if I can copyright some of my genius ideas right away, like the 'heated car seat foods' I may never do it myself, but if someone else does, I'll already have claim. Night Writer---how can I do that.
My niece says that if you put the URL there for the site you got the photo, they like that even better. However, I have already downloaded a hoard of photos that I have no idea where I got them.
I think the biggest issue is using something for profit. I think if we all credit a photo and we're just using it for our blog it shouldn't be a huge problem.
I used a photo from Kim and Chris' blog and she wrote to me and told me to put her URL there and I did.
The thing is, you can drag a photo off a page, most of the time, in a second, and how does anyone patrol that?
I've been having too much fun and hopefully the fun isn't over.
