Not football. LIFE. Case in point:
On my way in this morning, as I was driving by a lake, I noticed two young guys walking along in the ditch; odd I thought. Just a little further along I saw the reason. Their SUV was in the ditch, slanting at about a 45 degree angle, and it was maybe about 3 feet from going into the lake.
I had heard on the radio that the road conditions were slick and there had been a number of accidents in the metro area; but this particular area didn’t seem too bad. That brings up an interesting philosophical dilemma. Were these guys lucky or unlucky?
Most Christians would say they were blessed, and thank God that they didn’t go into the drink. I’m sure most, not all, non-believers would only be more than a little irked at having gone into the ditch in the first place.
I had a situation in my life where I knew the hand of God, or one of his angels, was right there with me in a MN winter situation. I was driving home from work at about 4:00 am one morning, years ago, and lost it during some icy conditions. I was spinning around, totally out of control, and heading towards the ditch. I did stop, facing the correct way on the road, right on the shoulder, and about a foot away from going down a very steep incline (and it wasn’t a ditch, it was a long drop down into a field) I had actually been praying as I was driving when it happened. After shaking off the initial fright I started off again; but it was almost impossible to move because I was on glaze ice.
I’m sure non-believers could come up with some type of explanation as to how I stopped spinning and came to an abrupt halt on glaze ice on a shoulder about one foot from a steep drop; however, I have my own explanation, and gave Him thanks for it during the whole drive home.
