The Osama Bin Laden of the animal kingdom.

I saw just a brief portion of some show on the Discovery Channel this morning before church. When I clicked on the channel there was a scene of two frogs engaged in a little nookie-nookie. I immediately thought it must be the PETA Spice Channel. No, it was just some documentary on frogs. (I imagine the ratings must be huge, great time slot)

Anyway, I watched for a few minutes and was able to learn about the most poisonous creature on earth, which immediately got me thinking about the animal jihad taking place, and what a comparison this vile little critter makes with Osama.

The tiny, 1.5-inch, Golden Poison Frog (Phyllobates terribilis) An average P. terribilis contains about one milligram of poison, which is enough to kill 10,000 mice-perhaps enough to kill 10 to 20 humans if the poison reaches their bloodstreams. The yellow frog stores the poison in skin glands, as do most frogs. Due to their poison, frogs taste awful to predators but P. terribilis' poison kills whatever eats it-except for a snake (Liophis epinephelus). This snake is resistant to the frog's poison but not immune.

That's your lesson for the day. Hopefully you'll be able to use this knowledge to your advantage. If you ever find yourself in Colombia, South America at midday, in the depths of a jungle west of the Andes along a Pacific river----don't eat or even lick the yellow frogs. Or, if your playing Trivia Pursuit, this info may come in handy.
