On this day of Thanksgiving, I'd like to take a moment to announce the opening of a new blog:
Solid Rocks Ministry
The purpose and intent of this blog is to be an internet Christian men's group meeting. As men, every one of us has struggles and/or full all-out battles with issues in our lives ranging from depression to addictions to marriage problems to parenting problems to you name it.
This site is not intended to replace a local church, or meeting with brothers in your own hometown. It is intended to be a place where men can come to find resources, support and encouragement. We are looking to find not just visitors, but men who will prayerfully commit to becoming contributors to the site. What we need are men willing to be transparent, and open themselves up and tell of their own struggles and how they are striving to,or have, overcome those battles.
My goal in starting this right now is to get 30 men across this country to unite into a blogging network of prayer warriors who will be united in helping any man that the Holy Spirit will lead to our site. The significance of the number, 30, is that it matches the 30 Mighty Men that formed King David's personal guard.
Right now there are three of us who are posting. There's Uncle Ben from Hammerswing75, Steve from Careful Thought II, and yours truly, kingdavid.
We are who we are---far from perfect human beings who are trying to walk humbly before our God and become better and more obedient disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ. Speaking simply for myself, I have a long way to go. I look back over the years and realize I can talk experientially about any number of the topics that I mentioned earlier. My life has been full of troubles, addictions and woes; some overcome, some I'm still battling.
At the same time, I also have an awful lot of fun in life, and I love this new hobby of blogging and writing and sharing the things I find amusing and absurd that go on in this world around us. I still have my own biases and beliefs and tenets that have formed who I am over the course of 50 years. I don't consider myself some far right Christian fanatic; but I do admit that I detest far left liberalism; and I don't know that I'll be able to stop mocking them and pointing out the idiocy of their ideology. (I find myself in the same predicament as Surly Dave, trying to walk in love as Jesus did---but at the same time wanting to wop some liberals on the side of the head because I think they're lunatics)
I've loved making new friends over the blogosphere--and it doesn't matter whether they're just great guys and gals period, or great guys and gals who are admittedly Christian on their web-sites. I enjoy each and every one of the sites I visit daily; I love the sense of humor and the sharing of laughs and knowledge and personal moments that you all put out there for others to read. Keep it up.
I hope you guys will visit the new website, whether you're a committed Christian or not. If you're a man, you've got manly issues you're facing; and that's where we come in to help.
Thanks be to God for you all.
