Hasta la squeegee seniors and senioritas

When you hear someone speaking Spanish, do you often wonder if they’re speaking it correctly. They could be total morons and mispronouncing every other word for all we know. Or they could be like some redneck and every other word is a cuss word. Or they could be speaking in some southern Mexico accent that no one else who speaks the language can understand either. One thing I do know, about 99% of the Mexicans I’ve heard speak faster than the guy who use to do Fed-Ex commercials. I’d love to hear some Mexican actor do the “To be or not to be” soliloquy. It would probably take them about 10 seconds to say it all.

I just thought of this again because I started watching some show on Univision last night; that’s the Spanish speaking channel. Some of the shows they have on seem pretty bizarre; I wish I could understand what was going on. I use to stop on this channel as I was surfing with Mocha-momma in the room. I’d do it just to get a rise out of her. She’d take it for about 30 seconds before it would drive her nuts.

I wish I was fluent in a second language. I took a year of French in college and got A’s; but I never used it after that and forgot it all within a few years. I’ll never forget those classes because my partner was a guy from Louisiana. It’s hard enough trying to learn a different language; but, it’s doubly hard trying to understand it when you’re listening to some guy speak it with a very strong southern drawl.

I talk to people from all over the country right now at work, and many of them will ask where I’m from. Some of them have actually asked if I was from the Dakotas or Minnesota; they could tell by my accent. I should start talking in my Ole accent all the time. Every once in a while I break into an Ole routine on the weekends and keep it going to entertain the kids---ya, youbetcha dere. Mocha-momma can fall into the “Fargo” youbetcha type speech on occasions.

Gotta get back to work, just thinking about weird stuff as usual. See ya.

Je ne crois pas que les espagnols parlent plus vite que nous, mais il le semble parce qu'on n'en peut rien comprendre.

KD, see if you can break a little rust off with that. Translation provided below.

I don't think that Spanish speakers speak faster than us, but it seems that way because we can't understand any of it.
